Atitlan

Lake Atitlán is the deepest lake in Central America and the second largest in Guatemala. Its deepest part is approximately 340 meters, while the average depth is 220 meters. Lake Atitlán is a body of water located in a huge volcanic crater in the mountainous area of southwestern Guatemala. It is surrounded by steep green hills, Mayan villages and volcanoes with impressive sharp cones.

It is an important economic source for the Department of Sololá, where it is located, as well as a tourist center of great commercial interest. Lake Atitlán is recognized as one of the most beautiful lakes of the world and is one of the most important national and international tourist attractions in Guatemala. Lake Atitlán is surrounded by the volcanoes Tolimán (3158 m a.s.l.), Atitlán (3537 m a.s.l.), and San Pedro (3020 m a.s.l.). The lake is situated at 1560 meters above sea level and is 18 km long.
