Semuch Champey
Semuc Champey is a stunning natural area in Guatemala’s Lanquín municipality, meaning “where the river hides under the rocks,” and situated about 12 km south of Lanquín’s urban center, in Alta Verapaz department. Within a dense tropical forest, lies a 300-meter long natural limestone bridge where the Cahabón River flows, surrounded by numerous pools ranging from 1 to 3 meters in depth. The turquoise or jade color of these pools shifts seasonally due to weather, sunlight, and natural elements. By the end, you will be able to witness the Cahabón River entering a limestone cave, an area too risky to approach in the river because of the powerful water. This geographical occurrence can only be viewed from afar. There is a spot where you can admire a lovely sight of the pools.
